Healthcare jobs are some of the most coveted in America because they offer impressive salaries and high bonuses, in addition to providing workers with an opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of others. Here is a rundown of the healthcare fields with the highest salaries.

Thoracic Surgeons

Thoracic surgeons specialize in the lungs, heart, esophagus and chest organs. After completing med school and a five year surgery residency, thoracic surgeons will make about $210,000 per year.

Orthodontists

Orthodontist healthcare jobs involve helping patients who have misaligned teeth or jaw bones. They may have trouble chewing, talking or smiling naturally. Jobseekers will need to graduate from a training certification program and become a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, but they can earn $195,000 to $200,000 annually.

General Internists

General Internist healthcare jobs involve specialization in a particular organ – be it the stomach, liver, or kidney. These job candidates know how to do diagnostic imaging tests and treat a whole host of organ maladies or failures. After receiving a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, General Internists could make close to $175,000.

General Practitioners

General Practitioners cover just about everything within the healthcare field – from healthy eating, disease prevention and acute illness treatment to compiling death statistics, administering treatments and answering patient questions. After receiving a doctorate, candidates can earn up to $160,000 base salary.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons

This sector of healthcare jobs involves treating hard and soft face tissue. They may reconstruct jaws, insert dental implants or treat facial tumors. After 10-14 years of education, oral and maxillofacial surgeons earn around $190,000.
