Marketing plays a significant role in every industry and sector. In extremely simple terms marketing is about ensuring that the needs of the all important consumer are being met and that and alongside the firm is also maximizing its profit. A marketing managers responsibilities may vary a lot but he will always have some things which will always be a part of his central objectives. Daily tasks and duties may depend upon the company’s size, structure and industry sector but some there are some things common to all.
One of the major parts of his job is to monitor and analyze market trends. Then there comes the part where the marketing manager needs to study its competitor’s products and services. The marketing manager needs to needs to explore ways of improving existing products and services and also increase their profitability. Then he needs to identify the target market that is which kind, age, sex, etc of consumers does he need to focus on before he develops strategies to communicate with them.
Most marketing managers work for around 35 to 40 hours per week. Mostly the timings are between 9am to 6pm. Although this is just a rough idea or say a minimum requirement but when tight deadlines need to be met and there is little time left on the clock then they often need to work a lot of extra hours. Marketing managers working for international companies need to travel a lot. Salaries range from 25000 dollars for a starting role to 40000 dollars for a more senior manager.
Being a successful as a marketing manager is no way an easy job to manage. In order to be successful there are some basic requirements which need to met before we could gaze upon the technical and complicated things. A marketing manager needs to have adequate knowledge of a wide range of marketing concepts and techniques. He must be an excellent communicator. His communication skills must be extraordinary. Since marketing management jobs are high pressure jobs and there is pressure coming from both the upper and lower levels of hierarchy. He needs to think out of the box, he must be very creative. Marketing is all based upon creativity; the more creative you are the better chances of success you will have. Motivation is a factor which is of extreme significance as well. A marketing manager must be highly motivated about the things which motivate people.
Typically employers look for graduates but there is no set criteria for getting into marketing management. Most managers have had previous experience as an assistant or an executive before progressing into the role of a marketing manager.
